Driver Education Rules

Students must be 15 years of age by the first day of class to begin driver's education. Learner's Permits can only be obtained at the BMV, but you will receive the Certificate of Driver's Education (CDE) when you enroll in our class. Students who choose our online classroom will receive instructions when they register.

Adult drivers may contact the Center to arrange private lessons and for more information about options for older student drivers.

Students must be paid in full in order to begin instruction with Five Star. A deposit of $30 will hold a place in our classroom/program, but the full amount must be paid in order to begin instruction. Please contact our office if you have any questions or special circumstances regarding payment.

It is recommended that Driver's Education programs (30 hours of coursework + 6 hours behind the wheel training) be completed within 180 days.  You should begin your Driver's Education course at a time in your schedule when you know you will be able to meet this deadline. Students who procrastinate getting drives completed frequently get frustrated and forget to finish and schedule Road Test in a timely fashion.

Students who cancel any driving (behind the wheel, BTW) session less than 24 hours before the scheduled time will be assessed a $25 late cancellation fee.  Our drivers are scheduled to drive for YOU when you schedule and we cannot fill those vacancies less than 24 hours in advance.  It is very important that you check your personal/family calendar BEFORE you schedule your driving times! Our automated system will send you a text and/or email reminder- we expect you to be at your scheduled driving appointment.

An owner, officer, instructor, agent, or employee of any commercial driver training school shall not state nor give the impression to a student that upon completion of the course, they will guarantee the securing of a driver's license to operate a motor vehicle. After completion of the course, the student must still meet any and all requirements established by the BMV before the BMV will issue the student a valid driver's license.
